Artisan Highlight || An Interview With Bri

Posted by Brackish Team on

She started in fulfillment, was our "Turkey Lady," and now she's an artisan. Bri has done it all, including making bow ties for her own wedding. Here's how she got involved with Brackish...

Q: When did you join the Brackish team? How did you hear about the job?

A: February of 2015 was when I joined the team. I actually heard about the job through my friends who both work here - Jess and Thomas. We were all living in Charlotte at the time and Thomas moved back to Charleston to work for Brackish. Shortly after, Jess and I decided to join him.

Q: What did your career look like before Brackish?

A: Nothing creative at all. I worked in accounting at a law firm and most recently at a credit union. I received a degree in Baking and Pastry, however, I have no prior craft experience other than crafting at home.

Q: When you first joined the Brackish team, what did your role look like?

A: My first position here was in fulfillment where I pulled orders and packed boxes. After I gained more familiarity with the feathers we were working with, I became the "Turkey Lady," or so we called it. Following this, I transitioned into an artisan role which is what I do today.

Q: Turkey Lady… what does that mean?

A: I was the go-to person when it came to turkey feathers. In this role I managed our turkey feather inventory where I inspected and sorted every feather we received.

Q: What's your favorite part about your job?

A: Ooo, I would have to say the environment here at Brackish. It is such a fun place to work and camaraderie is second to none. I also enjoy knowing that my work is being worn all over the world - sometimes by celebrities!

Q: If you had to pick one design to make every day at Brackish, what would it be?

A: The Original, for sure. This was the first bow tie I learned how to make and I think it is so classic. Depending on what type of light you're in, these turkey feathers look completely different.

Q: What’s a fun fact about yourself?

A: Oh! I was homeschooled from the time I was in second grade through high school. I’m such an extrovert that this usually surprises people. It even surprises me sometimes.

Q: For those who may be coming to Charleston for the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition next month, what would you say is a "must do" here in Charleston?

A: Easy - eating at Chubby Fish and getting on the water. Chubby Fish is a rather new restaurant downtown Charleston and their fresh, local seafood is delicious. Get there early - the tables go fast! Secondly, experiencing Charleston from the water is a completely different experience. Whether you rent a boat or go on a dinner cruise - it's worth it.

Q: Looking back on the past five years, what would you say the biggest change is here at Brackish?

A: The size. When I started the team was much smaller. Being able to see the company expand and our product lines grow before my eyes has been so amazing, and I am proud to be a part of it.
